Slow mo-Fire welding!

Just a quick video of us fire welding some items for a gate.

Fire welding: when two pieces of metal are heated in the forge too a molten state and hammered together.

In my opinion, fire welding is probably one of the most difficult practices  in the forge as well as the most satisfying, the temperature has to be just right, too hot and you have burnt it, too cold and it’s not going together.

Example where a fire weld is used: High quality scrollwork – this will all be fire welded together, it provides a flowing and strong joint, which when the scrolls are formed ensures a neat flowing effect which is required for traditional scrollwork.
